Recent recordings | & selected recordings from the past

On the left side of this page you will find download and BitTorrent links to some of my most recent recordings that are not hosted on another site such as the Internet Archive. Some of the recordings can be streamed and downloaded directly from this page. I have also included some recording notes and links to the performer's official web sites.

On the right are BitTorrent and Live Music Archive links to older, select recordings from the past. Some of the recordings can also be streamed and downloaded from this page. Shows uploaded to the Live Music Archive can be streamed from that web site as well.

Most of the recordings I make are with a stereo pair of microphones located in the audience section of the venue. I don't record bands covertly. Every recording I share here was made with the permission of the band and is available for free download. I follow the concert tapers code of conduct which means the bands allow me to record their live performances as long as I share the recordings freely.

I want to encourage people to get out and see local musicians play live. Buy their recordings and merchandise. Support the venues and organizations that sponsor and host live music. Spread the word about a band if you've heard them and enjoyed the performance.

To play the songs and download MP3 files individually...

Click on the play/pause button next to the song name to play/pause the song. A play list will be generated and the next songs will play automatically.

Use the hidden player on the bottom left of the page to customize playback. Click the X on the far right of the player to hide it.

Right click the song name to download the MP3 file to your computer. Choose "Save link as..." from the context menu.

Specially selected recordings from the past

Cracker ~ 2017-08-11 Library Park Stage at New West Fest, Fort Collins CO (Live Music Archive)

The high quality matrix mix audio feed from Ryan who was running front of house sound for the Library Park Stage, plus a great performance make this my favorite Cracker recording.

This a nice warm recording of Manitou Springs Band Barrel House playing in Colorado Springs. The mix done by Buddah Boys Audio engineer Nick Holden is top notch. The performance by Barrel House opening for Hot Buttered Rum is also very good.

Steve Poltz ~ 2013-12-28 Stargazer's Theatre, Colorado Springs, CO  (Live Music Archive)

I had not seen Elephant Revival or Steve Poltz play live before this show at Stargazer's Theatre. But, I will make it a point to see them when they come through again. I thoroughly enjoyed both sets. Everything came together perfectly to make this a great night of music. I feel these recordings capture that great energy.

Furthur ~ 2012-09-22 (Live Music Archive)

All of the elements came together perfectly on this first night of fall and allowed me to make a really nice recording of Furthur at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. I set-up in the tapers section behind the soundboard with a pair of spaced Audix CPS-Micro omni-directional capsules powered with Naiant PFA's. I had used the same microphone capsules powered with a Church Audio STC-9000 pre-amp to record the Haunted Windchimes in August and I was very happy with the sound of that recording. So, I was anxious to try them out in a bigger venue. I'm glad I did. This is among the most personally satisfying recordings I've made over the years. Stream it live or download the files at the Live Music Archive from the link above.

The Haunted Windchimes
Acacia Park Bandshell
Colorado Springs, CO
August 4, 2012

This was the first time I used my newly acquired Audix MICRO omni-directional microphones. The venue is outside and I set-up close to the stage. The audience was mostly very quiet and attentive.  Though, occasionally you can hear some audience chatter while the band is playing. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the way this recording sounds.

Outformation ~ 2009-03-20 (Live Music Archive)

A small group of us set up microphone stands centered, just in front of the soundboard for this show. This helped make the recording sound as punchy & present as it is. I'm not really a huge Outformation fan, but I like the way they sound on this recording.

Gregg Allman and Warren Haynes (acoustic)
Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Morrison, CO
September 2, 2006

This short set was billed as "A Special Acoustic Set with Gregg Allman and Warren Haynes." I wish I had taken pictures. They set-up a living room scene on stage, dimmed the lights, and Gregg and Warren played acoustic guitars and sang some songs. It's one of the favorite sets I've seen and heard at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. I had a good centered spot to record from and the weather was perfect. The playing and song selections were excellent too. This link will download a zip file, gwmp3.zip, which includes high bit-rate MP3 files. E-mail me if you want 16 bit or 24 bit FLAC or WAV files.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters ~ 1991-09-01 (Live Music Archive)

This recording I recommend for the performance, rather than the sound. However, the sound isn't bad. Technically, there are plenty of problems with this recording. The beginning of both "Blue Water" and "Ellis Island" are cut. There is some audience chatter heard in places, and the PA cut out during "Soul Children." But, the one thing I really like is hearing how dynamically and confidently the three piece Big Head Todd and the Monsters were playing before they hit it big with the release of the hit album Sister Sweetly.

Please note: The MP3 player I use on this web site adds an annoying short gap between songs that is not present on the actual recordings. Please download the MP3's & FLAC files and listen to them with a gapless playback player if you want to hear the songs played back seamlessly.
